The Ultimate Camping Supply Checklist Guide - Light it Up with Good Lighting Gear

What are the 'must-haves' lighting equipment for a camping trip?

Well, these are the basic ones, if you must include in your camping supply checklist. Feel free to bring a lot more if you feel the need to power up the whole camping site. The nocturnal animals need some good lighting once in a while.

But seriously, here are the must-haves;

Must-Have Number #1 - Flashlight (that includes spare batteries)

What is a camping trip without flashlights or what some would call torchlight? Never, ever set out to a camping ground without one. That is almost as good as saying don't go camping without a flashlight. Reasons are simple and it becomes clearer on your camping site. Things get displaced easily at night, and looking for that transistor radio, or that can opener, or whatever small little objects that you need is easier with a flashlight.

Must-Have Number #2 - Picnic Lanterns (again, that includes spare batteries)

Picnic lanterns are battery-operated lanterns, usually the big D-sized batteries. It tends to consume energy fast, so unless you do not have a big campfire burning, or your site lacks the proper lighting, then I suggest you use one. But try not to switch it on throughout the night unless you have lots of spare batteries to go around, of course.

Must-Have Number #3 - Cyalume Sticks (My son calls it the mini light-sabers)

These mini light-sabers come in different colors, green, blue, yellow, red, etc. We usually use them as color markers to indicate the toilet area or the restricted area or any hazardous sites at night. Break it, shake it and use it with a string. It does not have a strong illumination but is good for ambient lighting, nevertheless. They are cheap but last only for the first 8 hours.

Well, these are some of the must-have lighting gear that you need to include in your camping supply checklist. Like I said, feel free to bring along the generator if you want to, but hey, it is a camping ground no less. Enjoy and have fun!

Smart Choices In Camping Cookware!

To make the best of a camping trip, it is essential to pack along some sturdy, small and multi-purpose camping cookware so you can use these pieces conveniently to prepare a few meals at the campgrounds for yourself and the rest of the gang! This makes the choice of camping cookware a pertinent one since basic amount of campsite cooking is required at some point in time and the smaller and easily portable type of camping cookware is the best for lugging around since you also have camping equipment like bags and tent to think of!

Compact camping cookware that is lightweight is easy to pack and carry around serving many purposes too: commonly, a camping cookware kit consists of the ordinary cooking pot, skillets in various sizes that fit into each other (to save you packing space) and other items that are simple to transport.

The cookware material you choose is of utmost importance as each type - cast iron, titanium-made products, aluminum or stainless steel cookware - comes with its own advantages and disadvantages.

Camping cookware sets made of Aluminum, titanium and stainless steel weigh less and are therefore not cumbersome to transport while the first also has a non-stick range, which may be a little costlier. The disadvantage to camping cook ware sets made of metal is that these have a tendency to rust and therefore storage is recommended only after these items are fully-dry. Cookware made of Cast iron is hardy and with a bit of special looking-after, these kits can are very long-lasting, though they are not exactly lightweight and can be tedious to lug around as compared to cookware sets constructed of the previously mentioned materials.

While simple pans, skillets and pots are the basic camping cookware set's priority members, other essentials include cutlery, fundamental for enjoying mealtimes in the outdoors and utensils needed for the type of meals you wish to make at the campsite.

Some meals may just call for basic spoon-knife combo while others may require the whole enchilada of a mini-kitchen such as a spatula, measuring cups, pincers and elaborate forks. There are even the special folding utensil kits in the market today that fit in neatly (nesting sets) enabling minimum use of premium space and are easy to store too.

Those mulling over price tags and storage solutions for camping cookware have a neat and affordable option in the purchase of a simple spoon made of wood, of which the handle has been carefully sawed off (to prevent splinters) and a bowl besides the cheap and cheerful option of buying plastic cutlery sets. These simple and cost effective sets in plastic cookware consist of a wide array of cutlery and are convenient to use and store.

Keen on traveling light and packing that way too? Then, lessen the load of camping cookware by pre-preparing meals in your kitchen before leaving; chopped veggies, sauces packed into compact containers/food-grade bags of plastic, essential cutting equipment (board and knife - more than one of the latter kind) and a variety of spoons will make campsite cooking easy on you. Choose simple meals to cook during campouts that minimize carrying extra cookware, avoid elaborate recipe-ingredients and stick to easy, simple cooking methods, such as Aluminum foil cooking - fast to cook, good to eat meals!

Live Like You Were Dying - The Bucket List (Music Video)

Whats a Bucket List? If you havent heard about the bucket list, it is a wish list of all the goals you want to achieve, dreams you want to fulfill and life-experiences you desire to experience before you die. The term is inspired by the movie The Bucket List (2007) about two terminally ill men (Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman) who set off to achieve a list of things they want to do before they die. Your Bucket List: Create A List of Things To Do Before You Die Set some time aside to create your bucket list or your life list--a list of things to do before you die--and stop putting off your dreams for "someday". Take inspiration from the movie "The Bucket List" and ask yourself: If I had one year left to live, what would I be sure to do? By creating a list of 100 things you want to do before you die or before you "kick the bucket", you can begin focusing your life on what really matters to you. So, what should you include on your bucket list? Maybe you want to . . . 1. Write a script for a TV show. 2. Do stand-up comedy. 3. Attend Loy Krathong, the sky lantern festival in Thailand. 4. Go camping. 5. Ride a gondola in Venice. 6. Learn how to salsa dance. 7. Host Saturday Night Live. 8. Visit a Renaissance fair. 9. Find your live's passion. 10. Witness a solar eclipse. It's never too early or too late to create a bucket list. So, whether you're 10 or 98, use this lens for inspiration and for guidelines on how to get started creating your list of things to do before you die ...

How to Ramp Up Your Next Camping Trip Without Really Trying

Are you currently planning your next camping adventure? If so, there are a few things you can do to make this camping trip a bit more memorable. Camping really can be, and should be fun and exciting. With a little pre-planning, every camping trip can go off as smooth as butter.

One way to make any camping trip fun and exciting is by inviting some of your friends or family. There really is truth in the saying, "The more the merrier". You should also keep in mind that your friends and family do not necessarily all have to share the same campsite. Maintaining separate campsites will allow all of you to have fun together as well as having a space for privacy or to just be alone enjoying nature.

Another way to increase your enjoyment level on your next camping adventure is to plan ahead in relation to your campsite location. All campsites are not alike! Many campgrounds have numerous facilities and activities to keep you busy and entertained.

The activities are usually related to the areas landscape. For example many campsites are next to large lakes, rivers, and even oceans. At many of these sites they offer boat rental as well as fishing gear rental. Some have horse trails for equestrians. Many campsites located in the mountains have campfire storytellers at night or hiking guides for hiking into the wilderness for the day. Some of these activities may charge, however, but the cost is usually more than reasonable. When you pay an admissions fee at a campground park, you are essentially paying to access all of the services, facilities, and activities that are offered to you; therefore, you should make good use of them.

Although most campground parks in the United States are filled with fun and exciting activities, like swimming, hiking, and boating, you may still be looking for more. This is most likely to be the case if you are planning on taking an extended camping trip or camping adventure. To ensure that you are never bored, you may want to take the time to research nearby activities. This can easily be done with the internet. What you will to do is to create a list for yourself of activities "in town". After all it is your option to travel off the campgrounds into "town" or not. Usually this change in atmosphere is welcomed.

The amount and quality of the food that you bring can make or break a camping trip. Always be sure to bring extra food along. With the extra food, you may also consider inviting people from a neighboring campsite for a meal or snack. I have found that campers are generally a good group of people overall... and this is a great way to form friendships.

Taking a camera or a video camera with you is always a plus. This is a good idea for a couple of reasons.

First it allows people to loosen up a bit. If there are people who are shy and tend to hide when you bring out a camera, then here is a solution. Instead of bringing one camera, inform the people camping with you that you are going to bring a disposable camera with everyone. When everyone has a non-threatening disposable camera, people seem to enjoy that. The fear of cameras is lifted. Unless of course you are one of the Most Wanted and your picture is already in the post office!

The goal of any camping trip is to have fun. It's hard to be spontaneous and have fun when you are having problems. If you see anyone in your group having a hard time setting up or cooking a meal or WHATEVER...just pitch in, help and make it light. Sooner or later everyone will be able to relax enough to have fun. That really is the main goal anyway.

Holidays at Camping Grounds in New Zealand

If you have never been on a camping holiday, let me recommend New Zealand as your initial experience. There are many camping grounds in New Zealand to choose from which all offer a range of 'kiwi' experiences.

Camping grounds in New Zealand not only offer sites for tents, but also powered sites for Caravans, Campervans & RV's, along with self contained accommodation options for your stay. But it's not just the array of accommodation options available to you that make campsites in NZ extra special -- it's the numerous settings and views that you will get to experience that really make your stay memorable.

New Zealand camping grounds are dotted throughout both the North and South Islands in both popular and less heard of spots. Wherever you choose to spend your camping holiday you will be amazed at the stunning scenery and the beautiful sounds of nature which you will wake up to every morning. Whether you want to hear the sound of waves lapping the shoreline or the sound of a babbling creek, NZ can provide you with these options and more. Sea / river / lake views, forest views, mountain views and park settings are all common options for camp grounds. Why not experience a little of them all during your holiday? New Zealand has so much to offer in terms of activities too, but don't be fooled, there are plenty of opportunities for relaxing holidays too, the choice really is yours.

Camping grounds in New Zealand are either owned by the local Council, Department of Conservation or are privately owned. The facilities at these parks can range from the basics, such as communal bathrooms with cold showers, through to 'excellent' where you will have hot showers and kitchen & laundry facilities too. There is also a group called Kiwi Holiday Parks which is a group of around 50 member parks offering 4 star facilities which include extra things like children's play areas and an on site shop. If you are looking for that extra something to complete your campsite holiday, the hosted holiday park options are a great option, as your hosts will warmly welcome you and they are generally never far away should you need them. The hosted option also allows you to truly experience 'kiwi' culture and hospitality.

Many think that the supposed hassles of cooking and cleaning while camping don't make for an enjoyable holiday, however the popular 'kiwi' cooking option of BBQ's is top of the list for this type of holiday. The beauty of Camping Grounds in New Zealand is that most have barbecue facilities available to all guests. All you have to do is bring the ingredients and few drinks to enjoy around the picnic table, along with the good old fashioned kiwi favourite - tomato sauce, and you have yourself a true kiwi campsite holiday. So when it comes to cleaning up, you won't have to worry about extra pots and pans and utensils, just a wash of the hot plate and you'll be done!

The weather is forever changing and a camping holiday during any season in New Zealand is whatever you make of it. So get your gear together now and start searching for the campsite of your choice!

Great Lake Holiday Parks location has commanding views of Lake Taupo and the evening lights of the Taupo town center. From the park there is easy access to northern boat ramps and beaches.

Great Lake Holiday Park is part of Kiwi Holiday Parks, a group of 50 plus independently owned accommodation providers throughout New Zealand. With one, two & three bedroom self contained accommodation, deluxe cabins, standard cabins, powered and non powered sites offering a great choice of affordable accommodation to suit all budgets. Great Lake Holiday Park is a popular choice for individuals, families, extended families, groups, whether they are sporting groups, school groups, or family gatherings.

There is a playground and games room for the children to enjoy, and the park offers gas BBQ with an outdoor seating area and a private spa to finish off the day.Great Lake Holiday Park provides a friendly, comfortable environment for all travelers. Cleanliness is a very important aspect of Holiday Park accommodation and Great Lake Holiday Park has introduced natural cleaning products and a simple recycling program which travelers really seem to appreciate.

Choosing the Right LED Light For Any Situation

Light is a crucial element of day-to-day existence, and possessing the correct type of lighting both at home and on the go can mean the difference between safety and darkness. Advances in LED technology have made LED lights the most efficient and dependable in any situation. Here's a guide to choosing the best LED light products for the home, car and the outdoors.

LED Lights for the Home

It's a good idea to keep LED flashlights in multiple areas throughout the home so they'll be handy during power outages or any time you need to illuminate a dark corner. An LED flashlight features a longer battery life than a traditional light, plus you get brighter light from a more compact product, so it's easier to stash in a drawer. Consider also clipping a small LED light on your keychain for help unlocking your door in the dark.

For home improvement projects that require a hands-free light source, an LED headlamp is also a handy light to have around the home. It provides plentiful light without becoming hot during extended use.

Emergency Disaster Kit

Every home needs an emergency or disaster kit with important items such as a portable radio, first aid kit, extra cash, batteries, necessary phone numbers, a flashlight, etc. LED flashlights are great candidates for any home emergency kit, as they will last a long time without needing replacing. Basic tools are also a helpful addition to your emergency kit, and an LED multi-tool offers plenty of utility without taking up a lot of space.

LED Lights for the Car

There are certain items no car should be without: a blanket, water, jumper cables, seatbelt cutter, tire gauge, flares, basic tools and, of course, a flashlight. You can kill several birds with one stone by stowing away an LED multi-tool for vehicles that combines a seatbelt cutter, tire gauge, windshield hammer and LED flashlight. An LED headlamp is another great tool to keep in your car in case you need to change a tire or jump start your car in the dark.

Outdoor Recreation

Whether you're camping, fishing, hiking or hunting, an LED light is a basic survival tool you should never travel without. Because of their compact design, LED flashlights are highly portable, and an LED multi-tool with a small toolkit, compass and light can help you save on packing space. Anglers and hunters may also want to consider an LED headlamp that will allow them to carry gear in both hands, while campers can reduce fire hazards (and eliminate the need for matches) by replacing traditional lanterns with a flameless LED lantern.

LED lights are not only inexpensive, but they offer considerable savings over time. The versatility of LED lighting makes it a helpful tool for just about any situation.

- Flora Richards-Gustafson, 2010

Flora Richards-Gustafson lives in Portland, Ore., and writes for DLK.
She invites you to read more about the benefits of tactical LED flashlights at our hunting knives, multi-tool and all-purpose LED light website.

Discount Camping Gear For Your Rural Vacation

If you are trying to locate some discount camping items and equipment, the internet is a great place to start. You may also find discount camping gear in camping magazines or a local sporting good store in which you might find a closeout or end-of-the season sale. Just because an item is discount does not mean it isn't as good as the regular priced camping. Items are often marked down simply to make room for new styled gear. The older style may be discontinued necessitating the remaining stock to be sold at discount and quickly moved off the shelves.

When purchasing discount camping gear, you still want to be sure it is quality. Purchasing last season's style is fine, but it is necessary that the discount item works and serves the purpose for which you purchased it. For example, a sleeping bag may not need to be the finest material available, but a fire starting lighter needs to work well.

Reading consumer reviews of camping gear is a good way to learn about any negative incidents involving the item. This is important to know before making the purchase, even if it is discount. The last thing you want is a faulty item or equipment that could cause a problem while putting it to use. "Discount" means nothing if you can't use the item.

You can find a wide variety of camping gear at discount prices, including tents, knives, sleeping bags, heaters, cooking utensils and so much more. Some items are more easily found at discounted prices at the end of camping season, since stores try to sell off the remaining inventory from that year in anticipating for the arrival of next season's inventory. Tents are often the best discount purchase to make at the end of the season, specifically around the latter part of the summer when prices drop drastically.

Depending on the weather, a good time to find discounted sleeping bags is around September or October. Also around this time, you can find specials in hunting equipment such as survival knives or hunting knives, among others. Cooking utensils generally can be found discounted throughout the summer season due to sporadic sales advertising these items at low prices.

Pay attention to sales online or advertised at the local sporting good stores. You will find some great camping gear at reasonable, affordable prices. Rummage sales are another great place to find camping gear at very low prices. Yes, the items may be used but oftentimes not used much. Many people decide at some point to try a rural, outdoors camping vacation once or twice, but the equipment afterwards was left in storage and they now want to get rid of it.

Rechargeable Camping Lantern

When you first hear the words rechargeable batteries you immediately think of a few great benefits. The first of these would be less wastage and less need to buy batteries. Then you think, well I can save money from this. And then you think but where and how I am going to actually recharge the batteries. Besides the fact that rechargeable batteries require an additional item upon first purchase they last a really long time and push out as much energy right to the last bit. This can be bad for campers because they will not know when it is time to change the batteries. On the other hand it can be a good thing because they will get maximum light for as long as possible.

Usually when it comes to the camping lantern and talking about it being rechargeable we are most likely going to be referring to the solar camping lantern. This is because they are quite common and the way they work is very familiar to us. The solar cells on top of the lantern receive sunlight and then converts this energy into electricity that will charge the batteries back up. This is really good for days when it is sunny but not so great when it is cloudy or when you forget to leave it outside during the day before you leave for your adventures.

If you are going camping at a time when there is sure to be no sunlight then you probably do not want the solar lantern. But this does not mean that you have to buy the normal ones. There is an alternative for you. This alternative is the cranking or sometimes called wind up lantern. It means that energy is produced by you and your winding action. This energy can lead directly to the bulb lighting it up as long as you are cranking. The other way is that the energy is directed towards some batteries and charges them up for longer use.

As you can see, when it comes to rechargeable options in the camping lantern, there are a few things that you can choose from. You can get a simple lantern and just put rechargeable batteries in it. You can buy one that has a solar panel on the top and the sun will do the recharging for you. On the other hand you can do all the recharging yourself by turning your cranking action into energy. All these options are great and you will need to decide based on your needs.

Every camping lantern is different. Choose a battery led camping lantern for a really bright light.

The Benefits of Camping Lanterns

Camping is a popular activity that is enjoyed by thousand of individuals and families all year round. It is a great way to see the country side and to explore the wilderness. To make sure you enjoy camping it is important that you bring along with you the right equipment and gear such as tents, backpacks, water filters and boots. Another very important piece of equipment is camping lanterns.

Camping lanterns ensure that there is light during the night. They can also be used as a beacon so that you don't get lost in the darkness. Camping lanterns can be carried, hung inside or outside a tent or left on the ground. They are typically powered by batteries, kerosene or propane.

Lanterns powered by kerosene are cheap to run but do make a lot of noise. As they give off a large amount of heat they can't be used inside a tent. The glass casing protects the flame from the wind or rain.

Propane lanterns provide more illumination but will require you to bring extra canisters of propane with you. Each propane canister will usually give you about 14 hours worth of light. The extra propane that you carry can also be used on a propane stove if you have one.

Battery powered lanterns are easy to use but do require you to have spare batteries on hand. They are great for inside the tent as they give of minimal heat and their fuel source is not flammable. It is a good idea to use rechargeable batteries if you have the ability to recharge them during the day.

Alpaca Blankets - The Three Biggest Benefits to Owning an Alpaca Blanket

You may have heard about the popularity of alpaca garments and blankets, or you might own one yourself. These blankets make a perfect gift, especially for yourself! Here are the three biggest benefits to owning an alpaca blanket...

The Warmth Factor

Any garment made from alpaca fibers are warm, yet very breathable, and blankets are no exception. The fiber is twice as warm as wool and many times warmer than cotton. And while they are warm, they are certainly not stifling. The weave of alpaca fibers allows them to breathe, so while they are warmer than traditional blankets, they are also more comforting and practical.

Like other fabrics, alpaca fiber comes in many different colors, just under two dozen to be exact. As such, you'll easily be able to match your blanket to your bedroom decor.

Many new designs and patterns have recently been introduced by specialty online retailers, along with various sizes to fit any bed.

Durability For Generations

Quite often, you'll hear about an alpaca garment that has been handed down from one generation to the next. It is a real testament to the durability of the fabric.

Blankets in particular will last almost indefinitely, and some actually become family heirlooms. Given proper care, you can expect your blanket to last for decades.

Ideally, you should hand wash your blanket with a gentle non abrasive soap. We use baby shampoo and it works wonderfully. Then, place it on a drying rack instead of using the dryer. You can also drape it over towels to dry. It should be noted that using the high heat levels of a standard dryer will cause your blanket to shrink.

Comfort

One of the best attributes of alpaca fiber is that it is naturally hypoallergenic. Not only is it soft to the touch and gentle on your skin, it won't cause allergic reactions or irritations like many other fibers.

Compare an alpaca blanket to your favorite wool blanket and you'll feel the difference. Wool tends to be coarser, while alpaca fibers have a smooth, almost silky feel. If you have a hard time getting to sleep or staying asleep, you'll find an alpaca blanket may put you in a more restful state. With sleeping, comfort is everything.

Summary

If you're looking for a new blanket for you or as a gift, consider alpaca. Not only are they a unique item from an eco friendly sustainable animal, but their durability, comfort, and warmth are best in class.

Camping Equipment Necessary For the Beginner Campers

Camping is a wonderful outdoor sport that people of varied levels of athletic ability can enjoy together, no matter whether you are camping in your backyard, state park or in the rugged wilderness beside a creek. Camping can be a family camping outing, a romantic twosome or enjoyed with your best friends.

For novice campers it is a challenge to purchase quality equipment at an affordable price .

It is wise to make a list of the equipment that you need so you do not forget anything. Among the items on your list you need a tent, sleeping bag and pillow, folding table and chair, folding camp cot and cooking items. Other camping materials you need are hand sanitizer, insect repellent, camping lantern, and camp stove. I also like to have a standard grocery list so I don't forget things.

The first item that is a must is shelter from the weather. You must have a durable, reliable camping tent. Tents with thick coating on its body are considered more durable and can withstand strong wind and rain. Tents with lighter coating are suitable for summer season. You can shop on different online shops for a quality tent.

If you are sleeping in a camping tent then you will want to invest in a heavy duty folding cot or camp cot so you are off the damp hard ground. They are a life saver. Air mattresses are alright but you have to blow them up, which is time consuming, they sometimes deflate and what a disappointment to be at the campsite and discover you're your air mattress has developed a leak. I believe that a folding camp cot is the only thing to sleep on if you are tenting.

It is also important that you decide the level of roughing it that you want to experience. Do you want to be totally without power for lights and small appliances or not? If not then a car power inverter maybe what you are looking for.

Getting the right equipment and supplies is essential for a successful camping experience.

No matter what you have for camping equipment take time to enjoy the peaceful setting.
